Obverse description This obverse trial piece features a central circular hole, above which a crown is positioned, with the denomination rendered in both English and Arabic script arranged around the perforation. The legend GEORGIVS V REX ET IND: IMP: arcs around the upper field, identifying the issuing monarch as George V, King and Emperor of India. The denomination ONE PENNY appears in English, complemented by the Arabic inscription وَاحِد پَنّي below, reflecting the bilingual nature of the coinage intended for use across British West Africa. The design is characteristic of the holed coinage series produced by the Kings Norton Metal Company for British colonial territories. As an obverse trial, the corresponding reverse is left entirely blank.
