| Obverse description | Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George VI, engraved by Thomas Humphrey Paget, whose initials 'HP' appear on the truncation of the bust. The portrait is rendered in a restrained, naturalistic style with fine hair detail. The circular Latin legend reads 'GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX FIDEI DEF.' arranged around the periphery, omitting the 'IND:IMP' (Emperor of India) title present on earlier issues.
