| Obverse description | The obverse is entirely typographic in design, bearing no pictorial device. The merchant's trading name and address are arranged across the field in three lines reading '1 FOREST STREET', flanked above by the circular legend 'T. BUTTERWORTH & Co.' and below by 'CASTLEMAINE', all in capital serif lettering. The peripheral legend follows the inner border of a beaded rim that encircles the entire face.
