Benicull de Xúquer is a small municipality in Valencia's Ribera Baixa comarca with a population that has rarely exceeded a few hundred. During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican government's decree of September 1936 authorized local authorities to issue emergency small-change notes — *moneda local* — to compensate for the near-total disappearance of metallic coinage from circulation. Thousands of municipalities responded, most issuing only a single series in modest quantities. Benicull's issue is among the more obscure of these, with surviving examples genuinely rare simply due to the village's size and the limited number originally printed.
The Gari Mon reference is unassigned, suggesting it was either catalogued too late for inclusion or remains incompletely documented.
