Comments

The Ayuntamiento de Murcia issued this replica to commemorate the original wartime emergency peseta notes produced by the municipality during the Spanish Civil War, when the collapse of small-denomination coinage forced hundreds of local governments across Republican Spain to print their own scrip. The 2003 reissue was produced by the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre — the same state printer responsible for official Spanish currency — which gives the replica an uncommon degree of production fidelity, including a genuine watermark rather than the cosmetic facsimile markings found on most commemorative reproductions.
