Reverse description The municipal coat of arms of Naguabo dominates the central field, depicting a mural crown surmounting a quartered shield, the whole freathed within an ornate laurel wreath. A scroll at the base bears the legend "MUNICIPIO DE NAGUABO". The municipality's name "Naguabo" arcs prominently across the upper border, flanked in the field by the foundation year "1821" to the left and the municipal order number "#49" to the right. The motto "Cuna de Grandes Artistas" (Cradle of Great Artists) curves along the lower periphery.

Additional information

Puerto Rico has not issued its own coinage since the Spanish colonial peso system was abolished following American annexation in 1898, when U.S. currency was imposed at a fixed exchange rate that wiped out locally-held Spanish pesos overnight. A 2009 silver peseta attributed to "Puerto Rico" with a Naguabo designation is not a recognized governmental issue — Naguabo is a small municipality on the island's eastern coast with no minting authority. This appears to be a private or fantasy piece, possibly part of a regional collectibles series, and should be cataloged accordingly.
