Ojós is a village in the Ricote Valley of Murcia with a population that barely reached 600 in the 1930s. That the Frente Popular issued its own local emergency currency during the Spanish Civil War is not unusual — hundreds of municipalities did the same after the July 1936 military uprising disrupted the national coin supply — but a note from a settlement this small is genuinely uncommon. Most have disappeared entirely.
The Ricote Valley remained under Republican control until the very end of the war. Notes from this pocket of Murcia had an unusually long potential circulation window, though actual survival rates suggest they were treated as disposable scrip from the start.
