| Reverse description | A forward-facing bust portrait of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, the Cuban independence hero known as the 'Father of the Homeland,' is rendered in high relief at the center of the field. He is depicted with shoulder-length hair, a prominent mustache and goatee, and wearing a cravat and coat typical of the mid-nineteenth century. The date 1868, commemorating the Grito de Yara and the start of the Ten Years' War, appears to the left of the portrait, while the mint year 1977 flanked by a small key symbol and a star appears to the right. The circumferential legend CARLOS MANUEL DE CESPEDES arcs across the upper field, and GRITO DE YARA is inscribed along the lower field, flanked by five-pointed stars, all within a beaded border. |
