The left panel carries a Seated Liberty vignette, the allegorical figure holding a plaque in her right hand and an olive branch in her left; at centre, the Mexican national arms appear as an eagle grasping a serpent in its beak while perched on a nopal cactus above Lake Texcoco, the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Ixtaccíhuatl rising in the background.
