Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Queen Isabella II facing right, her hair elaborately dressed with a laurel wreath and ribboned tresses falling behind the neck. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail. A circular legend surrounds the bust, with the mint name MANILLA and date 1857 appearing in the lower field beneath the portrait. The entire design is framed by a dentilated border.

Reverse description Quartered shield of Castile and Leon — displaying castles and rampant lions in the four quarters with a central escutcheon — surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is encircled by the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, rendered as a linked decorative chain. The mint mark M appears to the left of the shield and the assayer initials PJ to the right, both in the field. The design is framed by a dentilated border.
