Cuba issued a series of copper-nickel fauna coins in the early 2000s aimed squarely at the international collector market rather than domestic circulation — the Cuban peso was effectively non-functional for most transactions by this point, with the convertible CUC operating as a parallel currency. KM#869 belongs to that collector-oriented run, produced in limited quantities for export sale through state numismatic channels.
