Additional information

Grützner & Faltis was a textile manufacturing operation in Hainitz, Bohemia, one of hundreds of industrial firms across the Austro-Hungarian and later Czechoslovak regions that issued private notgeld and token coinage when small-denomination currency dried up — particularly acute during and immediately after World War I. Zinc was the default fallback material once copper and nickel were requisitioned for the war effort.

The Menzel reference numbers suggest this piece is catalogued in both the 2005 and 2018 editions, indicating it survived in enough examples to be consistently documented across successive surveys of Bohemian factory tokens.
