| Obverse description | Printed in purple on a yellow-green guilloche underprint, the obverse carries an intaglio oval portrait vignette of Captain James Cook at right, rendered in fine line engraving. The New Zealand coat of arms is positioned at centre, set within an elaborate circular guilloche, flanked by Maori decorative motifs along the lateral borders. The denomination ONE POUND appears in bold letterpress at centre, with the issuing bank title across the top and the promise-to-pay legend, signature of the Chief Cashier, and serial number completing the design. |
