Sudan's Currency Board was established specifically to manage the transition away from the Egyptian pound following independence in January 1956 — this note belongs to that brief window between colonial monetary administration and the eventual establishment of the Bank of Sudan in 1960. The Board itself was a stopgap institution, never intended as a permanent central authority.

De La Rue handled the entire series. The watermark is the primary security measure, consistent with the relatively modest specification typical of newly independent states working within tight post-independence budgets and relying heavily on established British printing relationships.
