Issued in the final year before Cyprus locked its exchange rate to the euro in preparation for eurozone accession, this silver proof represents the last period in which the Central Bank of Cyprus had meaningful autonomy over commemorative coin policy. The country formally adopted the euro on 1 January 2008, rendering all pound-denominated issues obsolete within six years of striking.
