Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large intaglio vignette reproducing John Singleton Copley's celebrated painting 'The Death of Major Peirson,' illustrating the 1781 Battle of Jersey, with British troops rallying under the Union flag in Royal Square, St. Helier. A guilloche oval medallion occupies the right side, with the denomination numeral '£1' in a circular cartouche at upper left. The printer's imprint 'DE LA RUE' appears discreetly at centre-bottom beneath the vignette.
