Additional information

In 1433–34, Nuremberg's city council authorized counterstamping incoming Bohemian Prague Groschen as a practical response to the monetary disruption unleashed by the Hussite Wars. Bohemian coinage had become unreliable in both supply and fineness as minting at Kutná Hora was repeatedly disrupted by conflict, and Nuremberg — a major commercial hub dependent on stable exchange — needed a mechanism to vouch for specific pieces it was willing to accept at a fixed local valuation.

The Slg. Erl. reference places this type firmly in the Erlangen collection documentation, one of the few systematic sources for Nuremberg municipal counterstamp issues of this period.
