Additional information

Harman first issued Lundy coinage in 1929, denominated in Puffins and Half Puffins rather than sterling — a direct provocation to the Crown that landed him in court under the Coinage Act 1870. He was convicted and fined. The 1965 issues appeared posthumously, as Harman died in 1954; they were struck under the authority of the Landmark Trust's predecessor ownership to sustain the island's peculiar parallel economy for resident workers and the tourist trade.
