Cadott, Wisconsin hosted an annual frog-jumping contest — Frog Hop — that became a genuinely regional draw in Chippewa County. Scrip like this 1 Rail note was issued by Schwebel's as event currency, redeemable within the fairground economy for rides, food, or entry fees, keeping spending on-site and giving organizers a cut of any unredeemed balance.
These novelty transportation tokens in paper form — "Rails" rather than dollars — are now collected more as americana ephemera than monetary instruments. Survival rates are low; most were spent, lost in pockets, or discarded after the event closed.
