Reverse description The royal arms of Spain are depicted at center, showing a quartered shield bearing the castles of Castile and the lions of León, with a pomegranate in base and the Bourbon fleur-de-lis inescutcheon, surmounted by an ornate royal crown. Two large crowned pillars of Hercules flank the shield on either side, each entwined with a scroll. The mint mark (G), assayer initial (P), and denomination (1R) appear in the field among the pillars. The circular legend reads HISPAN ET IND REX, identifying the monarch as King of Spain and the Indies, with the full legend completing the attribution to Guatemala. A beaded border frames the entire design.
