| Obverse description | Crowned quartered shield of Castile and León displayed within a roughly irregular cob flan, characteristic of the macuquina (cob) coinage tradition. Two crowned pillars of Hercules flank the shield on either side, with stylized waves in the base. The mintmark and assayer's initial appear in the field, along with a partial date. The design is boldly struck though irregularly centered, consistent with the hand-struck cob coinage of the Lima mint under Philip IV. |
