| Obverse description | Central field displays the quartered royal coat of arms of the Spanish Crown, surmounted by a royal crown, with the mint mark 'Mo' to the left and assayer initial 'J' below, and the denomination 'I' to the right. The date appears to the left of the shield within the circular legend. The peripheral legend reads PHILIPPVS V D G in Latin characters, separated by pellet stops, running around the entire circumference. The design is executed in the milled cob-style (macuquina) tradition characteristic of early eighteenth-century New World colonial coinage. |
