Reverse description Central device depicts the Pillars of Hercules — two crowned columns rising from a stylized sea — flanking a globus cruciger or orb, representing the two hemispheres of the Spanish Empire. The whole is encircled by a beaded border. The mint mark G appears on both sides of the date in the lower legend, and the reverse legend VTRA QUE VNUM (Both as One) runs around the upper periphery, referencing the union of the Old and New Worlds.
