| Obverse description | Host coin is a Spanish colonial milled silver 1 Real struck under Carlos IV (CAROLUS IIII), displaying a laureate and draped bust of the king facing right, with the legend CAROLUS IIII partially legible around the periphery and the date (circa 1801-1808) visible in the lower exergue. Superimposed upon this host is the El Salvador Type V countermark of 1868, applied within a small circle and depicting a Liberty cap above the national shield flanked by draped flags; the specific Type V countermark may appear as a plain Liberty cap above shield on draped flags within a 10 mm circle, a radiant Liberty cap above shield on draped flags within a 12 mm circle, or a Liberty cap above shield within branches in a 12 mm circle. The overall coin shows significant wear consistent with circulation of the underlying host prior to countermarking. |

| Reverse description | The reverse retains the design of the original Spanish colonial host coin, typically featuring the crowned royal arms of Spain flanked by the Pillars of Hercules with the mint mark, assayer initial, and denomination numeral, all rendered in the milled colonial style. Legends and devices are heavily worn and partially obscured due to prior circulation of the host coin before the 1868 countermarking operation. No additional El Salvador countermark is applied to this side. |
