| Additional information |
Oman designated 2001 as its national Environment Year in conjunction with the 31st National Day celebrations, a policy initiative driven largely by Sultan Qaboos's sustained interest in wildlife conservation — he had established the Arabian Oryx Sanctuary in the 1990s, which received UNESCO World Heritage status in 1994. The commemorative issue was produced to mark both occasions simultaneously, a pairing that was administratively convenient rather than coincidental.
KM#154 was struck to the standard 28.28g .925 silver specification widely used for Commonwealth and affiliated commemoratives of the period, with production almost certainly contracted through a British or European mint rather than struck domestically.
