Comments

One of several quasi-autonomous regional issues produced during the Indonesian National Revolution, when the Republican government in Yogyakarta could not reliably supply currency to outlying territories under Dutch blockade. The Lampung Residency — on Sumatra's southern tip — resorted to locally authorized emergency notes to keep commerce functional. Tandjungkarang was the residency capital, and the issuing authority here is the regional treasury rather than any central banking body.

The handstamp security feature is the tell. These notes were authenticated at point of issue by rubber stamp, a vulnerability-by-necessity that made counterfeiting a genuine concern at the time.
