Additional information

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta occupies a peculiar position in numismatics: a sovereign entity without territory, issuing coins with no practical circulation. The 1963 Scudo series was produced under the Order's authority in Rome following its post-war reorganization, intended primarily as collector issues rather than transactional currency. Angelo Mojana di Cologna had been elected Grand Master just two years prior, in 1962, making this among the earliest coinage struck under his nearly three-decade tenure.
