| Obverse description | Heavily encrusted cast bronze disc with an irregular flan typical of early central Italic aes grave coinage. The central device, heavily worn and obscured by patination, depicts a schematic head or pellet-in-ring motif in low relief, characteristic of the Tarquinian semis series. The broad, flat field shows the rough texture inherent to the sand-casting technique employed by Etruscan mints of this period. No legible inscription or legend is present, consistent with the aniconic or near-aniconic convention of this early coinage. The overall fabric and weight class are consistent with the libral or sub-libral standard attributed to Tarquinii circa 280–260 BC. |
