| Reverse description | Central field features a stylized traditional Bruneian decorative motif — a symmetrical interlaced geometric design of diamond and scroll forms, characteristic of Malay ornamental art. The circumferential legend 'KERAJAAN BRUNEI' arcs along the upper periphery, with the date '1967' continuing to the right, and the denomination '1 SEN' appearing at the base, all separated by raised dots. |

Brunei's Currency Board was established in 1967 specifically to issue the new Brunei dollar following the territory's withdrawal from the Board of Commissioners of Currency Malaya and British Borneo — a shared monetary arrangement that dissolved as Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei each pursued separate currency regimes. This 1-sen piece belongs to that inaugural series, the first coinage issued under the authority of Brunei alone during Omar Ali Saifuddin III's reign, just two years before his abdication in favor of his son Hassanal Bolkiah.
