Obverse description Central field occupied by a dense, interlaced Arabic inscription in flowing Naskh/Nasta'liq script, comprising the Shi'a kalima and the names of the Twelve Imams arranged in a circular or radial composition. The legends fill the flan from centre to periphery, with a circular border inscription running along the rim. Typical of Safavid hammered coinage, the die is larger than the flan, resulting in partial legends at the edges. The strike is irregular, consistent with hand-hammered production of the period.
