| Reverse description | Central field features the large numeral '1' surmounted by the crown element of the Tajik national emblem, consisting of a stylized crown topped with a rising sun motif. Seven five-pointed stars arc above the crown in the upper register. The entire central design is enclosed within an ornate quatrefoil framework rendered in a traditional Central Asian architectural style. The Cyrillic denomination СОМОНӢ is inscribed below the numeral, and the date 2018 appears at the base within the lower lobe of the quatrefoil. |

| Additional information |
The somoni was introduced in 2000 to replace the Tajik ruble, itself a transitional currency that had replaced Soviet rubles following independence in 1991. The unit is named after Ismoil Somoni, the 9th-century Samanid ruler whose reign is regarded as a high point of Persian cultural and political organization in Central Asia — a deliberate choice by a government seeking pre-Soviet roots for its national identity.
