| Obverse description | Central field depicts the national arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo: a leopard head facing front, flanked by a crossed spear and a flaming torch, set above an olive branch, all surmounted by a ribbon bearing the national motto in three sections. The denomination '1 ZAÏRE' appears in large letters in the lower field. The circular legend 'RÉPUBLIQUE DÉMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO' runs along the upper periphery, while the motto 'JUSTICE PAIX TRAVAIL' is inscribed on the central ribbon of the arms.
