| Additional information |
Luis Mendes de Vasconcelos served as Grand Master for barely two years, dying in office in 1623 before completing his term. His tenure coincided with sustained Ottoman pressure on the Order following the fall of Rhodes in 1522 and the ongoing fortification of Malta — the zecchino issues of short-lived Grand Masters are consequently among the scarcest in the entire Hospitaller series, with small emission volumes tied directly to the brevity of each reign.
