A túloldalon jelzett felhasználási határidő lejártával ez az adójegy érvényét veszti s az érvényességi határidőig adólerovásra fel nem használt adójegy alapján az államkincstárral szemben követelést támasztani nem lehet. The adópengő was a tax-indexed unit introduced in January 1946 specifically because the regular pengő was inflating faster than the government could print. By linking face value to a daily tax index, the Hungarian Ministry of Finance hoped to issue notes that retained at least nominal purchasing power long enough to be useful. It did not work. The index itself accelerated, and by late July 1946 the adópengő was also worthless — both currencies were replaced simultaneously by the forint on 1 August 1946.
The 10,000,000 adópengő denomination, extraordinary as it sounds, was not near the top of the series. Notes reached 100,000,000 adópengő before the collapse.
