Issued to mark the United Nations Decade for Women (1976–1985), this coin was part of a broader Greek commemorative gold program from the mid-1980s that saw relatively modest mintages and limited international distribution. The UN Decade had been launched following the 1975 World Conference on Women in Mexico City, with the closing conference held in Nairobi the same year this coin was struck.
