Comments

The P#43 series was introduced as Burundi's highest denomination note during a period when the franc had lost substantial purchasing power — by the mid-2000s, 10,000 francs represented a meaningful but not extraordinary sum, roughly equivalent to a few US dollars at prevailing exchange rates. The note was printed by De La Rue, which held the contract for Burundian currency through this period.

The hologram strip was a notable upgrade for a central African issuer of this size, added partly in response to counterfeiting pressure on earlier high-denomination issues.
