The Banque Nationale du Laos issued this high-denomination note during a period of sustained inflation that had eroded the kip's purchasing power severely through the late 1990s — the 10,000 kip denomination, once substantial, had become a workaday transaction note by the time this series entered circulation. Laos had introduced its first 10,000 kip note only in 1992, a threshold that itself marked how far the currency had slipped since the PDR's founding monetary reforms of 1979.

Security remains modest for the denomination — a single watermark, no metallic thread.
