Ghana's cedi has been redenominated twice since independence — most drastically in 2007, when the "new cedi" replaced the old at 10,000:1, effectively erasing four zeros to stabilize public confidence in the currency. The 10 Cedis note in this series descends directly from that redenomination exercise and circulates in an economy where mobile money has outpaced physical cash in transaction volume, making mid-denomination notes like this one increasingly transactional rather than savings instruments.
Thomas De La Rue has printed Ghanaian currency continuously since the earliest post-independence issues, an arrangement that has outlasted multiple governments and two redenominations.
