Bolivia's current centavo series was reintroduced in 1987 following the catastrophic hyperinflation of 1984–1985, during which the boliviano was replaced entirely after the peso boliviano lost virtually all value. The 10 centavos denomination has persisted largely unchanged in specification since that reform, with steel replacing earlier compositions as procurement costs rose.
