| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair elaborately arranged with a wreath of laurel leaves and tied in ringlets at the nape, engraved in high relief after a design by Leonard Charles Wyon. The circular legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA runs from the lower left around the upper periphery, with CANADA inscribed along the lower arc. The field is smooth and unadorned, and the entire design is enclosed within a finely executed dentilated border. |

| Reverse description | At centre, the denomination 10 CENTS is inscribed in two lines within an open field, with the date below. A wreath of maple leaves, tied at the base with a ribbon bow, frames the central inscriptions on both sides, its branches rising symmetrically from the lower field. A St. Edward's Crown surmounts the wreath at the top of the design. The whole is enclosed within a dentilated border, and the number of maple leaves on the wreath varies by year and die variety. |
