Comments

The National Bank of Nicaragua Incorporated was itself a peculiar institution — a privately chartered American company granted a concession to act as Nicaragua's central bank, a direct consequence of U.S. financial intervention following the Dawson Agreements of 1911. This note circulates within that arrangement: a foreign-owned bank issuing sovereign currency for a sovereign country under heavy external pressure.

Hamilton Bank Note Company printed relatively few national currency contracts compared to rivals like ABNC or Bureau of Engraving, making their Latin American output less common in collector holdings than the volume of issues might suggest.
