GOVERNMENT OF KELANTAN
Reverse description The Islamic Shahada ('لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله') is rendered in large, ornate Arabic calligraphy within a central circle, dominating the field. The World Islamic Mint monogram 'WIM' appears within a decorative cartouche at the top of the coin, above the central circle. A Quranic verse (Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:52, 'وإن هذه أمتكم أمة واحدة وأنا ربكم فاتقون') is inscribed in Arabic script around the outer border, framing the central design. The overall composition reflects traditional Islamic artistic conventions, with fluid calligraphic forms filling the available space.

Additional information

Kelantan's silver dirham program, launched under Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, was a direct challenge to Malaysia's federal currency framework — the first sub-national attempt in the modern Muslim world to circulate Shari'ah-compliant gold and silver coinage alongside a national fiat currency. Bank Negara Malaysia made clear the coins held no legal tender status, yet the state government distributed them regardless, initially through zakat payments and select traders in Kota Bharu.

The X# prefix in standard references signals its status as a non-circulating or unofficial issue by mainstream cataloging convention — though in Kelantan it briefly did circulate.
