Fiji's involvement in commemorative collector coinage accelerated sharply in the 2000s as the Reserve Bank leaned on third-party minting arrangements to generate foreign currency revenue — this piece being a product of that program rather than any organic connection between Fiji and the 2010 South Africa tournament. The island nation had no team in qualification.
