Obverse description The national coat of arms of Trinidad and Tobago occupies the central field, featuring a shield charged with two sailing vessels above a stylized chevron, supported on either side by a Scarlet Ibis and a Cocrico bird, both with wings displayed, standing upon a grassy mound above stylized waves. The crest above the shield displays a ship's wheel surmounted by a coconut palm, flanked by tropical foliage. A scroll below the supporters bears the national motto TOGETHER WE ASPIRE TOGETHER WE ACHIEVE. The legend TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO arcs along the upper periphery, while TENTH ANNIVERSARY curves along the lower periphery, with the date 1972 appearing in the lower field beneath the arms.
