The figure is rendered in a bold, classical style with fine detail in the musculature and drapery. The denomination legend 'TEN DOLLARS' appears in the field, completing the reverse design.

Additional information

Barbados achieved independence from Britain on November 30, 1966, but the commemorative coinage marking that milestone took a decade to materialize. This piece was issued as part of a matching set alongside silver and gold versions — the copper-nickel composition made the series accessible without diluting the prestige of the higher-metal strikes. The Central Bank had only been established in 1972, four years before this issue, meaning the institution was still young when it authorized its first major commemorative program.
