| Obverse description | The right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, occupies the left portion of the field, with the crowned coat of arms of Kiribati positioned to the right. The legend KIRIBATI arcs along the upper periphery, followed by the national motto TE MAURI TE RAOI AO TE TABOMOA, with the engraver's initials IRB and the date 2016 appearing in the lower field. The portrait presents the Queen in a mature likeness, wearing the diamond diadem and pearl earrings. |

| Additional information |
John Simpson Kirkpatrick — a British-born Australian soldier who used a donkey to ferry wounded men from Anzac Cove during the Gallipoli campaign of 1915 — was killed by shrapnel on May 19, just weeks into the campaign. He had been AWOL from his unit to carry out the work. Kiribati, a Pacific microstate with no historical connection to Anzac, issues these pieces almost entirely for the collector market, a practice common among small island nations leveraging their mint authority for numismatic revenue.
