British Honduras operated on a dollar pegged to the British West Indian dollar and, through it, to sterling — meaning this high-denomination note existed primarily for commercial and intercolonial transfers rather than everyday trade in a colony where most transactions ran well below a dollar. The 1947–1951 window brackets the period of postwar austerity in Britain, which had a direct knock-on effect on colonial currency orders: De La Rue was managing backlogs across multiple territories simultaneously, and British Honduras was a low-priority client.
P#27 is the scarcer of the George VI dollar issues from this issuer, with the ten-dollar face value limiting its practical circulation to merchants and government offices. The gray colorway distinguishes it from the earlier wartime issues in the series.
