Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, featuring a shield bearing a sailing ship and crossed tools, supported by two woodcutters — one holding an axe, the other a paddle — standing on a ground line. A mahogany tree rises above the shield. The entire device is surrounded by an olive wreath. The country name BELIZE is inscribed as a legend at the top of the field, and the motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO appears on a scroll at the base of the arms. The date 1979 is inscribed in the lower field below the wreath. A beaded border runs around the rim.
