Additional information

The Principality of Hutt River was a self-declared micronation in Western Australia, established in 1970 by Leonard Casley after a dispute with the state government over wheat production quotas. It operated for five decades before formally dissolving in 2020. Coins issued under the Hutt River name have no legal tender status anywhere and circulate almost exclusively among novelty collectors and micronation enthusiasts.

Silver-plated brass rather than sterling or fine silver keeps production costs low — a practical necessity for an entity with no central bank and a population that rarely exceeded a few dozen residents.
