Comments

The Chatham Islands Note Corporation was a private issuing body, not a governmental central bank — these notes were produced as collectible legal tender for the Chatham Islands, a New Zealand territory whose official currency is the New Zealand dollar. The "Millennium First Note" designation was a marketing conceit aimed squarely at collectors, with the series deliberately numbered to drive demand.

Printing by Chan Wanich in Thailand is worth noting: the Bangkok-based firm handles a significant volume of low-run commemorative and collector-oriented issues for small Pacific territories, where print quantities are too modest to interest the major security printers.
